Dr Thomas completed his Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery in 1986. He obtained his Masters degree in Sports Medicine in 2008 and is a Fellow of Sports Doctor Australia.

He is a member of Sports Medicine Australia and registrar supervisor with the Australasian College of Sports and Exercise Physicians.

He has published works on “Clinical Sports Medicine Practice in Rural Australia” also composed an article on “Distance Running and Risk of Knee and Hip Osteoarthritis”

Dr Thomas has been the team doctor for North Ballarat VFL Club, Boxing Australia, Dubbo Kangaroos Rugby Club. He has been a consultant for Victorian Institute of Sport, Dubbo Rhinos Club and Dubbo Macquarie Rugby League Club.

He has been a lecturer for Sydney University Medical School Rural Medical School Dubbo and Orange. Dr Thomas has also been the Sports Medicine educator for International Medical Graduates Dubbo.

Dr Thomas has presented at many conferences including Sports Medicine Australia national conferences, Grand Rounds Dubbo Base Hospital and Orange Health Service, GWAHS Physiotherapy Conference 2008 and has also presented at Sports Medicine Australia Emergency Care Courses.

Dr Gareth Thomas relocated his practice from Dubbo NSW to Orange in 2012.

Dr Gareth Thomas grew up in country NSW, Broken Hill and Dubbo.

He wife is an art teacher and practicing artist and they have two sons working in rural NSW as lawyers.

Dr Thomas loves sport and is a member of the Orange runners club. He has successfully participated in over 20 marathons and many half marathons.

He loves music of all description but especially modern jazz, blues, rock and classical. He also enjoys playing the guitar.

His favourite leisure activities are cryptic crosswords (the really hard ones), gardening, and he also loves reading.

His passion for sport of all kinds makes his field of medicine so exciting for him.
